fenestration of the toenail using clearanail machine

Fenestration

What will happen in the appointment?

Fenestration is the process of making micro holes in the nail so that suitable medication can reach the nail bed.

At Salisbury Courtyard Clinic we use the ‘Clearanail’ machine which makes this a painless process. After the holes are made you will then need to apply an antifungal medication to the nails on a daily basis, until the second appointment. You will be told which medicament is best for you, these may be available to buy in clinic, if in stock, otherwise you will be able to buy these from any pharmacy. Please only use the medicament that is recommended as it will be the most suitable, the molecules are the correct size to penetrate the holes that have been made.

The second ‘Clearanail’ process should be repeated about 8 to 12 weeks later. You will continue to apply the medicament daily after the second appointment for another 8-12 weeks.

You will not be able to wear nail polish or apply any other nail products to the nail during the treatment cycle (approx 6 months).

Please note the appointment time and fee is for the Clearanail process only. There is usually not enough time to carry out general nail cutting and foot care during this appointment.

Your progress can be reviewed during your routine appointments if you are a regular patient.  If you are not a regular client then you can book a standard appointment slot and the podiatrist can review your progress.  Please allow a minimum of six months from your first appointment before you book a review.

How much does it cost?

Clearanail process £90 per appointment (two appointments needed)

Review appointment £50 (Standard appointment)

Medicament approximately £7 - £20
